Music and movement has been a central focus of connecting the children's learning experiences. Additionally it encourages participation from each multiple intellegence.
The children become actively engaged through song and dance.
Songs about colours, rainbows, and the alphabet have enabled children to make meaningful links to their learning experiences. Further, we have begun linking music and movement experiences with classical music by Mozart and Stratuss. These musical pieces enable children to become in tune with classical composers through a child friendly and active dance experience. Resources are adapted from the "Fun with Composers" kit.
We have also been experimenting with rhythm sticks through a rhythmic kinesthetics. With the rhythm sticks we are exploring the difference sounds we can make along with the beats in familiar songs. Bean bags have also been used for music and movement.
Yoga has been integrated into this
music and movement time by enabling the children to become in touch with their
body through progressive movements. "The Yoga Game" has stimulated
the children's engagement in yoga as it uses animals and positions to introduce
yoga to children. We further extended this Yoga experience by practicing the
sun salutation and creating our own stories which integrate yoga movements.
