On Friday September 27 the kinders had an apple day. Each child was encouraged to bring in an apple. It was amazing to see all the different types and sizes of apples.
Throughout the day we discussed the parts of an apple and all of the numerous kinds of apples. In our community circle we asked the children to share what apples remind them of. Some ideas were my snack, being healthy, keeping the doctor away, thanksgiving, apple sauce, apple pie, and apple crisp! It was great to hear all of the children's meaningful connections.
Throughout the day we made apple sauce, tasted apple cider, sorted the apples and gave out apple awards.
Cross curricular
learning experiences were embedded throughout the day. Children were sharing
ideas, using descriptive language to explain, explore, and extend their ideas
about apples. Questioning and inquiry was integrated as children wondered aloud
about the origination/names of apples, where in the world they come from, and
why are they different.
