In class we have been investigating
and exploring trees. We have had many intriguing discussions with the
children regarding all of their previous knowledge and experience with trees.
It is great to hear all of the children's wonderful connections. They are able
to discuss the lifecycle of a tree and share all of the different types of
trees. While in back to nature we have been learning about more trees and how
to identify them by their leaves. Our science table is full of real objects for
the children to further explore.
To continue to extend the children's
interest of trees we have been doing a lot of reading and researching about
trees. Some of the children's favourite books are listed below. They have
stimulated many meaningful conversations and connections to the world around
them.
Following the read aloud
children began to manipulate clay to make their very own trees. They molded the
clay and some children used different colours to represent a fall tree while
others created a summer tree. They even used their finger nails to create a
texture to their tree.
It was amazing to see
how each child chose a different avenue to solidify their knowledge and
experience with trees. Some children chose to paint trees with brushes while
others used their arm and hand to represent a tree.
Further, we began discussing with the children family trees. We brainstormed a list of all the diferent people in your family from moms, dads, siblings, grandparents, and pets. We discussed how each family was unique and very special. Children were intruiged in learning about their peers families.
